Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 31

Employment outside State

Section 31 allows regulations to adapt social welfare contribution rules for people who are insured while living or working abroad.

  • Regulations may modify how this Part and Schedule 1 apply to persons who are or have been outside Ireland while insured under this Part.
  • Such modifications can specifically include removing the territorial requirement "in the State" from paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 1.
  • This removes the geographic restriction that would otherwise limit certain contribution conditions to employment within Ireland.
  • This section operates alongside other regulation-making powers in this Part without limiting their general scope.
