Research

Section 95 empowers the Minister to promote research into occupational accidents, injuries and diseases covered by the occupational injuries insurance scheme.

• The Minister may commission or support research into the causes, frequency and prevention of work-related accidents and prescribed diseases.
• Research can be conducted either by directly employing researchers or by funding external researchers already working in the field.
• Salaries, remuneration and travel allowances for employed researchers require approval from the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.
• All costs associated with this research must be paid from the Social Insurance Fund.
