Rate of pension

Section 169 sets out how the guardian's payment (non-contributory) is calculated, including the means test that determines the rate payable.

• The full weekly rate of guardian's payment (non-contributory) is €237.00, as specified in Schedule 4.
• If the orphan's weekly means are €7.60 or less, the full rate is payable.
• If the orphan's weekly means exceed €7.60, the payment is reduced by €2.50 for every €2.50 (or part thereof) by which means exceed the €7.60 threshold.
• No payment is made if the calculated rate falls below €2.50.
