Definitions

Section 30A establishes the key definitions used throughout this Chapter, specifying who qualifies as a public office holder, what constitutes a public body, and how remuneration is defined for social welfare purposes.

  • Public office holders include the President, TDs, Senators, judges, the Attorney General, the Comptroller and Auditor General, military judges, and Irish MEPs receiving the specified salary
  • A qualifying office has the same meaning as in the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Act 2009
  • Public bodies comprise Government Departments and bodies established by legislation
  • Remuneration means PAYE-taxable emoluments paid by a public body to a public office holder
