Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 211

Rate of allowance (including increases for qualified adult and qualified children)

Section 211 sets out the weekly rate of disability allowance, including the increases payable for dependants and personal circumstances, and the means-test rules that reduce the payment as the claimant's income rises.

  • The basic weekly rate of disability allowance (the "scheduled rate") is €254.00, with additional amounts for a qualified adult (€168.60), each qualified child (€58.00 if under 12; €78.00 if 12 or over), living alone (€22.00), and residing on an island off the Irish coast (€20.00).
  • Where the claimant's weekly means do not exceed €7.60, the full scheduled rate is payable; where means exceed €7.60, the allowance is reduced by €2.50 for every complete or partial €2.50 of excess.
  • Only one qualified adult increase may be claimed unless regulations provide otherwise.
  • The child increase is halved where the claimant's spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant is not themselves a qualified adult (or falls within the category described in section 210(2)).
