Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 182

Payment of allowance

Section 182 prevents duplicate payments of carer's allowance and clarifies that carer's allowance cannot be paid where carer's benefit is already in payment for the same care recipient.

  • A carer can only receive one carer's allowance (or domiciliary care payment under section 186A) at any time, regardless of how many people they care for.
  • Only one carer's allowance (or domiciliary care payment) can be paid in any week for the full-time care of a particular person.
  • Carer's allowance cannot be paid where carer's benefit is already being paid to anyone for caring for the same person.
  • These restrictions apply notwithstanding any other provisions in this Chapter.
