Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 293

Effect of means on certain rates of assistance

Section 293 allows the Minister to round up certain social welfare assistance payments to the next multiple of €2.50 where the calculated amount is not already an exact multiple of that figure.

  • Where a person receives means-tested assistance under Part 3 and their means exceed a prescribed threshold, the payment amount may need rounding.
  • If the resulting payment is not an exact multiple of €2.50, the Minister may by regulations round it up to the next €2.50 multiple.
  • This rounding-up power applies only to prescribed classes of persons specified in the regulations.
  • The provision overrides other calculation rules in the Act to ensure payment amounts remain administratively convenient figures.
