Regulations varying rates and amounts of contributions

Section 32 provides that regulations may be used to change the rates or amounts payable for employment contributions, self-employment contributions, or voluntary contributions.

  • The Minister may make regulations to vary contribution rates and amounts
  • This power covers employment contributions (PRSI paid by employees and employers)
  • Self-employment contributions can also be adjusted by regulation
  • Voluntary contributions, made by people who wish to maintain their social insurance record, are similarly subject to adjustment
