Provisions as to names of CLGs

Section 1178 sets out the naming requirements for companies limited by guarantee (CLGs), including the mandatory name endings, permitted abbreviations, and business name registration obligations.

• A CLG's name must end with "company limited by guarantee" or the Irish equivalent "cuideachta faoi theorainn ráthaíochta"
• After registration, the English ending may be abbreviated to "c.l.g." or "clg", and the Irish ending to "c.t.r." or "ctr", in any capitalisation
• A CLG trading under a name other than its corporate name must register that business name, but merely using the permitted abbreviations does not trigger this requirement
• These rules are subject to transitional provisions under section 1190 for guarantee companies that existed before the Act commenced
