Companies Act 2014 section 902

Membership of Supervisory Authority

Section 902 sets out who the members of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA) are, covering both prescribed accountancy bodies and designated regulatory or public interest bodies.

  • Each prescribed accountancy body that is a body corporate is automatically a member of IAASA; where a prescribed accountancy body is not incorporated, it may nominate an individual or body corporate to be a member on its behalf.
  • Designated bodies that are bodies corporate are likewise automatic members; unincorporated designated bodies may similarly nominate a representative.
  • The default designated bodies are the Corporate Enforcement Authority, the Central Bank, the Irish Stock Exchange, and the Revenue Commissioners, together with any additional body prescribed by ministerial regulation.
  • The list of designated bodies was shortened from the predecessor legislation, removing bodies such as IBEC, ICTU, the Irish Association of Investment Managers, the Pensions Board, IFSRA, and the Law Society, though the Minister retains the power to add new designated bodies by regulation.
