Three types of unlimited company and uniform words to be affixed to name

Section 1228 identifies the three types of unlimited company that may be formed and registered, and specifies the standard wording that must appear at the end of every unlimited company's name.

• Three types of unlimited company may be formed: a private unlimited company (ULC), a public unlimited company (PUC), and a public unlimited company with no share capital (PULC).
• Every unlimited company, regardless of type, must include prescribed wording at the end of its name.
• The name must end with either "unlimited company" or the Irish equivalent "cuideachta neamhtheoranta".
• The naming requirements are governed by sections 1237 and 1247, which include a transitional provision allowing certain existing unlimited companies to omit the prescribed wording.
