Registrar may apply system of information classification

Section 895 gives the Registrar the power to apply a classification system to information received and to assign identification symbols to persons or classes of persons, and provides for ministerial regulations requiring the use of those symbols on statutory documents.

  • The Registrar may classify information delivered under the Act and assign identification symbols (such as NACE codes) to persons or categories of persons
  • This power applies to any information that is required to be delivered to, and received by, the Registrar under the Companies Act
  • The Minister may make regulations requiring that the assigned symbol appear on all documents that must contain the person's name, and specifying who is responsible for compliance
  • Failure to comply with these regulations is a category 3 offence
