Companies Act 2014 section 34

Language of documents filed with Registrar

Section 34 sets out the language requirements for documents filed with the Registrar of Companies, including provisions for EU language translations and rules on what happens when translations differ from the original.

  • All documents delivered to the Registrar must be in Irish or English.
  • A certified translation into any official EU language may also be filed with the Registrar.
  • Where there is a discrepancy between the original and the translation, the company cannot rely on the translated version against a third party.
  • A third party may rely on the translation against the company, unless the company proves the third party knew about the original Irish or English document.
