Companies Act 2014 section 969

Provisions as to names of DACs

Section 969 sets out the naming requirements for Designated Activity Companies (DACs), including permitted name endings, acceptable abbreviations, and business name registration obligations.

  • A DAC's name must end with either "designated activity company" or its Irish equivalent "cuideachta ghnΓomhaΓochta ainmnithe".
  • "Designated activity company" may be abbreviated to "d.a.c." or "dac" (in lowercase or uppercase), and "cuideachta ghnΓomhaΓochta ainmnithe" may be abbreviated to "c.g.a." or "cga" (in lowercase or uppercase), for any use after registration.
  • These abbreviations may be used by any person, including the DAC itself.
  • If a DAC trades under a name other than its corporate name, it must register that business name in the manner required by law, but using the permitted abbreviations alone does not trigger this registration requirement.
