Personation of member: offence

Section 1200 makes it a criminal offence for any person to falsely impersonate a member of a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) in order to obtain money or to vote at meetings.

  • It is an offence to falsely and deceitfully pretend to be a member of a CLG.
  • Receiving, or attempting to receive, money that is due to an actual member of the CLG constitutes an offence.
  • Voting, or attempting to vote, at any meeting of the CLG as though one were the genuine member is also an offence.
  • A person found guilty of personation commits a category 2 offence, which carries significant penalties.
