Definitions (Chapter 3A)

Section 944A provides the key definitions used throughout Chapter 3A and Schedule 22 of the Companies Act 2014, which deal with the Corporate Enforcement Authority.

  • The section defines terms such as "chairperson", "civil servant", "Committee of Public Accounts", "establishment day", "financial year" and "Member" for the purposes of the Corporate Enforcement Authority provisions.
  • The Authority's financial year runs for 12 months ending on 31 December each year, with the first financial year beginning on the establishment day and ending on 31 December of that same year.
  • The "chairperson" covers both a person formally appointed to lead the Authority and a person acting in that capacity under the relevant appointment provisions.
  • A "Member" of the Authority includes not only those formally appointed but also any person authorised to act in place of a Member on a temporary basis.
