Registration office, "register", officers and CRO Gazette

Section 887 establishes the framework for the Companies Registration Office (CRO), the appointment and role of the Registrar of Companies, the registers that must be maintained, and the CRO Gazette.

• The Minister must maintain one or more offices in the State for registering companies and carrying out the Registrar's functions, and may appoint a Registrar of Companies along with assistant registrars as needed.
• The "register" refers to the main register kept by the Registrar recording all documents and information filed under the Act (including details of company incorporations), as well as any special-purpose registers required by the Act, all of which are treated as forming part of one overall register.
• The electronic CRO Gazette, previously maintained by the Registrar under earlier legislation, continues to be maintained and is formally referred to in the Act as the "CRO Gazette".
• Acts performed on behalf of the Registrar by assistant registrars or other CRO staff before 21 December 1999 are retrospectively validated, and going forward the Registrar's functions may be delegated to assistant registrars and other authorised persons for the purposes of the Companies Act, the Limited Partnerships Act 1907 and the Registration of Business Names Act 1963.
