Companies Act 2014 section 729

Meaning of remedial step

Section 729 defines the specific corrective actions a company must take to halt the strike-off process, depending on which ground triggered the proceedings.

  • Each ground for involuntary strike-off has a corresponding remedial step that, if completed, can halt the strike-off process before dissolution occurs.
  • Remedial steps range from filing overdue annual returns or tax statements, to providing evidence of an EEA-resident director, appointing a director or secretary, or confirming registered office details.
  • Where a company is being struck off due to an incomplete liquidation, the remedial step requires providing both the liquidator's details and up-to-date periodic statements to the Registrar.
  • A failure to deliver required beneficial ownership information to the Registrar of Beneficial Ownership can also trigger strike-off, and the remedial step is to deliver that outstanding information.
