Publication of name by company

Section 49 requires every company to display its name prominently at its business premises and on its official documents, and sets out the consequences for failing to do so.

• A company must display its name in a conspicuous position, in easily legible letters, outside every office or place where it carries on business and at its registered office.
• The company name must appear in legible characters on all official notices, publications, bills of exchange, promissory notes, cheques, orders for money or goods, invoices, receipts and letters of credit.
• Failure to comply is a category 4 offence for both the company and any officer in default.
• Using the abbreviation "ltd" instead of "limited" or "teo" instead of "teoranta" is permitted and does not constitute a breach.
