Reservation of a company name

Section 28 sets out the procedure for reserving a company name with the Registrar, whether for a new company being formed or for an existing company wishing to change its name.

• A person may apply to the Registrar, on payment of the prescribed fee, to reserve a name either for a new company to be incorporated or for an existing company to change its name to
• The Registrar may reserve the name for a period of up to 28 days, starting from the date the notification is issued, provided the name is not considered undesirable
• Before the initial reservation period expires, the applicant may apply (again on payment of the prescribed fee) for an extension of up to a further 28 days
• The Registrar has discretion to refuse to reserve any name that, in their opinion, is undesirable
