Companies Act 2014 section 1447

Disapplication of section 7 of Official Languages Act 2003

Section 1447 deals with the disapplication of the requirement under the Official Languages Act 2003 to publish legislation simultaneously in both Irish and English, and provides for the electronic availability of the Act in both official languages.

  • Section 7 of the Official Languages Act 2003, which normally requires simultaneous publication of legislation in Irish and English, does not apply to the Companies Act 2014.
  • The Act must be made available electronically in both Irish and English as soon as practicable after enactment.
  • This provision was originally introduced through section 8 of the Companies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2013 and was carried into the Companies Act 2014.
  • The disapplication reflects the practical challenges of simultaneously translating the extensive Companies Act 2014 into both official languages at the time of enactment.
