Companies Act 2014 section 3

Periods of time

Section 3 deals with how time limits and deadlines under the Companies Act 2014 are calculated, particularly when they fall on weekends or public holidays.

  • If a deadline under the Act falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, it is automatically extended to the next available working day.
  • Where a task must be completed within six days or fewer, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are excluded from the count entirely.
  • These rules apply to all time limits set out anywhere in the Companies Act 2014.
  • The provisions are based on the earlier rules in section 4 of the Companies Act 1990.
