Companies Act 2014 section 51

Service of documents

Section 51 sets out the rules for how documents may be formally served on a company, either at its registered office or, where that office has not been notified, by delivery to the Registrar.

  • Documents can be served on a company by leaving them at, or posting them to, its registered office
  • If the company has not notified the Registrar of its registered office location, documents can instead be delivered to the Registrar
  • A document sent to the address currently recorded by the Registrar as the registered office is treated as validly served, even if the company has since moved
  • The Registrar must enter on the register any document that has been served on a company by being delivered to the Registrar
