Companies Act 2014 section 1342

Addition of "limited" or "teoranta", etc. to name

Section 1342 requires companies registering under this Chapter to include specific words in their registered name to indicate their liability status.

  • A company registering with limited liability must include the appropriate designation β€” such as "limited" or "teoranta" β€” as part of its registered name, depending on the type of company involved.

  • Exemptions exist under sections 971 and 1180 allowing certain charitable and other companies to dispense with these naming requirements.
  • A company registering with unlimited liability must include "unlimited company" or "cuideachta neamhtheoranta" as part of its registered name.
